About and FAQs

This workshop covers many frequently asked questions and concerns around breastfeeding and aims to answer any specific queries participants have. It is a great chance to meet other expectant parents and its often helpful to hear other people’s questions and thoughts. You will discover how to prepare well for your breastfeeding journey. FAQs WHAT WILL BE COVERED IN THE WORKSHOP? A chance to share questions so they can be covered during the sessions. Facing potential challenges. Life with a new baby and what can be helpful. Preventing problems and what can help. Skin-to-skin – what is this? how does it help with breastfeeding? How to position your baby to help them attach well at the breast. What is meant by good attachment? How frequently do breastfed babies feed and how much milk do babies need WHAT CAN I EXPECT? This workshop is a mix of discussion, PowerPoint presentation, and videos. There will be a break for refreshments and other breaks can be included as needed. A detailed handout with links to useful websites, videos and support groups is provided by email directly after the class. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ATTENDING? Evidence shows breastfeeding has long-term health benefits for both the mother and baby. Colostrum, the first milk produced by mothers in the first few days after birth, is rich and concentrated and provides the baby with a wealth of antibodies, nutrients, and calories. Even if a mother only breastfeeds for the first few days, this is a valuable boost that is not possible from formula milk. However, breastfeeding can take time to learn and establish and this workshop provides valuable preparation and support. Once established, breastfeeding is very comfortable, relaxing and rewarding.
